We have reached goal #1!

I have reached my first goal! I have raised an upwards of $13,000 for breast cancer research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center! I am so thrilled with the amazing responses I have had from family, friends, and strangers! Thank you all so much for your support- together we will help find a cure to cancer!

Training is in full swing now, I am in the best shape of my life and continue to get stronger! Being a young female I make it my personal goal to be over prepared physically, mentally, and in all of my skills. Too often am I judged as being incompetent because I am a young woman!

A Much Needed Update!

It has been a long time since I last updated! Sorry! I am still actively fundraising and planning fundraisers, I am almost to $9,000! But still have $3,500 to go!

To donate go to: http://getinvolved.fhcrc.org/goto/kristenburrows — it only takes a minute! :)

As for training, I am in full swing now. For the last few months I have incorporated much higher levels on the step-mill, and CrossFit into my regular workout routine (mostly running, the step-mill, and strength). Currently I am carrying 25lbs on the step-mill, which will gradually get to 60+ lbs by the end of May at the latest! CrossFit has been a huge asset to my training too, I have never been stronger both mentally and physically!

If your interested, my dad shared an interesting article about mountaineering training:

On another note, winter is my favorite season! I have spent every weekend at Crystal mostly skiing but have also made it out for some snowshoeing!

Hope everyone is enjoying the snow! :)

November Update

It has been a very successful month, as you can see from my previous blog posts! 42 pies sold during my pie fundraiser. In addition, I started attending CrossFit twice a week since October, and I have seen a significant increase in my strength. Officially my training will begin in December, but I pride myself in maintaining a high fitness level!

As another fundraiser, I will be hand-addressing Christmas card envelopes for $0.50 an envelope. All proceeds to FHCRC. You provide your card, the envelope, the stamps, and the addresses and I will address them and send them out within a week from when I get them! For more information please email me- kristen.burrows@yahoo.com

If you are interested here is another project I am working on:

Thanks again to all who continue to support my effort!

Again, another successful weekend!

Hello all!

I had another awesome weekend! Started out by going to the Warren Miller movie Saturday night, I highly recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation for the outdoors or the incredible talent these athletes have!

Today, with the help of my mom, we made 26 pies. About half had already been reserved, so we still have many pies left! I will continue to make apple and pumpkin pies until Thanksgiving, so if you are interested please email me! All proceeds to the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer which supports breast cancer research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center!

These past few weekends have reminded me of how lucky I am to be a part of such a supportive community. The kind and encouraging words I receive from both friends and strangers has made this experience so rewarding. In addition, I have the most amazing family, who have been so helpful in my fund-raising journey.

Thanks again to all who have supported me, I wish I could better show how grateful I am!

My current freezer situation, help! (I promise the pies aren’t squished either!)

Ready for delivery!

Successful pie sale for FHCRC

WOO successful weekend! After cleaning my grandmother’s apple tree, I (with help from my family) sold $580 of apple pies (about 12 hours of pie making!), and some pre-orders for Thanksgiving! All proceeds to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I am so pleased by the response and very motivated to keep pie sales going until Thanksgiving!

Please email if you would like a pie (or few!)

WOOT!

This week I was one of three leaders on the Western Outdoor Orientation Trip (WOOT!) rock climbing and mountaineering trip! We spent the first two days with the WOOT! participants at Mt. Erie learning how to rock climb, and then spent the night at a campground in Deception Pass. It was spectacular! The next two days we spent on Mt. Baker learning mountaineering skills. The final day we spent at a campground near Mt. Baker. It is difficult to try and summarize this experience because I learned so much, met incredible people, and had an experience I don’t think I could ever articulate. Thanks to Courtney Odell, I have some photos to share!

1/3 Way Complete With Fundraising!!

I am super excited that I am well over 1/3 way complete with the fundraising goal of $12,500. Again, I have a personal goal to be 1/2 way through by the end of September! The total amount raised so far is $4,425!

This week I am moving back to Bellingham for my second year at WWU. I have the privilege of being a trip leader next week on the Western Outdoor Orientation Trip (WOOT!) Our goal is to summit Mt. Baker- the weather looks like it will be beautiful!
